    Entrevista a Rockmon Dunbar (c-note)

TV Guide: So, Rockmond, is that it for C-Note?
Rockmond Dunbar: Well, he's not dead. He went off into the witness protection program with his family. His story is done, but all that's happened with me is that I'm not a regular castmember. I'm a recurring one now.

TVG: Ah, so you could come back.
RD: Yeah, I could, but you know, I've already moved on to my next series, Heartland.

TVG: And I do want to talk about Heartland in a minute, but I have a few more Prison Break questions for you. Like, were you surprised when you were told that C-Note was leaving the show?
RD: I was, especially because I had been told that C-Note was going to be OK. When the script for Episode 18 was sent to me, [the producers] called me and said "Hey Rock, you're hanging at the end of the episode, but we want to tell you that you're not dead!" So I was a little worried because we get the scripts a few days apart. Then, in Episode 19, C-Note's still alive, so that was OK. But then, I got a call, and they said, "Hey, um, Rock? You know how we told you that you were OK? We've painted your character into a corner and we don't know where he could go. We can't have you as a regular player anymore, but we love you and the relationship we have with you, so we'd like you to have a recurring role. You can sit around and get a smaller contract, or you can go out and try to get something else. We hate to lose you, but we also don't want you just sitting around collecting cheques." And that's the biggest thing, you know? I don't care how much money I make, I love to work. That time between "action" and "cut" is so precious to me. C-Note, in my eyes, is someone that may be invited back again, maybe not, but I've moved on to a different show, and I'm really happy about that.

TVG: One more question about C-Note. He seemed very thuggish and one-dimensional in Season 1, but he really grew as a character and became very much of a softie in Season 2.
RD: Yeah, and the thing I liked about the character was that the only initial information I had gotten about him was that he had lied to his wife. So when I got more information [about his backstory] I was like "Great, I can really work with this." I've had people tell me that he was all whiny and everything, but you know, he was the smartest guy in the group. He was very manipulative, and he went after what he wanted. He played with his emotions, and those around him, to get what he wanted.

TVG: All right, let's talk about Heartland. I've only seen a teaser of this show, not a full epside, but what can you tell me about yout character, Tom Jonas?
RD: Well, I'm not actually in the first episode. As soon as I found out about Prison Break, I flew out to Los Angeles, had a meeting with the creator - David Hollander - and before my role on Prison Break was even done, I had another job. My character was introduced in the episode after the pilot, and the show had already been picked up and put together, and they wanted to add another character. Treat Williams' character moves up in the ranks of the heart surgeons, and my character takes over his spot. I am one of the top surgeons in the hospital - heart, kidneys, lungs, liver - and I'm very good at what I do. I've come from Stanford, and worked really hard to get where I am. I come in and Treat's character and my character bump heads.

TVG: How weird is that - you've gone from playing an escaped convict to a renowned transplant surgeon?
RD: [laughs] I give all the credit to where I studied acting, which is the College of Santa Fe. I learned a heck of a lot there, and they helped me how to put characters together, and I learned how to become a chameleon. I've played a psychologist, an inmate, a hitman, that's a testament to what the school taught me.

TVG: One last question - do you still have time to do your artwork?
RD: No man! Right after this show, I'm going to start filming a feature film that I've been putting together for quite some time. It's called Black Flag, and it's an action-comedy about a black NASCAR driver who was a war hero and becomes a NASCAR driver. And I've moved to Chicago for this, and my girlfriend said "When we move in, you have to hang at least one of your paintings there.
